Upcoming Events
African American History Tour
Join us for a profound exploration of Jackson’s past as we walk the grounds of historic Greenwood Cemetery. While many are surprised to find a significant number of Black Mississippians interred here, this tour moves beyond surprise toward a deeper understanding of our shared human experience.
This isn't your typical "greatest hits" tour. We are stepping off the beaten path to honor the laborers, midwives, businessmen, teachers, and former slaves who built the fabric of our community.
Why Attend?
Beyond the Luminaries: Discover the "vibrant community history" often glossed over in standard textbooks.
The Fluidity of History: Learn about the complex social and legal policies of the past—such as the story of Benjamin F. Hardy, whose racial classification shifted from "white" to "black" across three federal censuses.
Bridging the Divide: Reflect on how political and social policies separated people in life who now lie side by side in death.
This walking tour is designed to spark curiosity and invite contemplation. We provide the starting points; we encourage you to follow the paths of inquiry that speak to you.
Date: February 21
Location: Greenwood Cemetery, Jackson, MS
Admission: Free (Registration Required)
Space is limited to ensure an intimate and informative experience.
